The free web is fast vanishing!

In the past few weeks, I have seen an alarming trend, Free services providers are closing down.

Most do not even give you warnings! So here are a few tips that might prevent a disaster. waking up one day and all your hard work as disapeared.

1=If you use a free server start regular back ups! Or risk loosing everything...Not a pleasant thought!

2=Start mirroring (meaning copy to other servers) your site in various places so you can change links fast...

3=Keep a notebook of who links to you so you can warn them of the link addy change. Same goes with search engines... There are various webmaster services that will show you who links to your site.

Or just place your webaddy on search engines and follow the results you will be surprised where it will lead you:-)

4=You can also use some html compiler to save your website. they compress your files and save space on your drive.

5=Alternatively, you can also make a folder for your site and save all data images etc then zip it. Make sure to upgrade the folder regularly.

6=Find ways to market your website so that you can afford to move to a pay server and avoid this problem. Even so always back up your site regularly, better be safe:-) As the users are reluctant to financially participate in net ventures it is going to become increasingly difficult to find anything free on the net...

I have been offering free services for bands through my site as it is on a free server i could afford to do so. But in view of what is going on...for how long?

I have been singlehandedly working on that site for 3 years. It is a wonderful experience. I still remember the days when even basic HTML was seemingly an arcane language only accessible to a few initiates.

How things have change since then:-)

Take heed of the signs and prepare yourself the free net won't remain so for much longer.
