Book Clubs are fast becoming the new home entertainment craze, with reason, having friends and family over to discuss the latest release of your favorite author, is an exciting proposition.

Here are some guidelines for the novice book club host. See which one are best suited for you. Remember, be creative and see what works for you and your guests.

-Have plenty of beverage on hand reading and talking makes you thirsty.Avoid alcool! Light wine is fine, fruit juices are better and healthier.

- Have each person read their favorite passage then explain why she likes that part

- Have each person read the worst part and why.

Leave enough time for cross arguments but set a limit to the amount of responses or this could degenerate.

Have it understood that everyone will leave the 'Aunt may's biscuit recipes' till after the book club is officially over and the socialising part begin!

Have each person pick a book in turn each time you meet.

Try to reach the author and organise a short chat time where each can ask at least one question( I see those eye brows rising :-)I am an author of children literature and I do it quite often with classrooms and book clubs and I know many writers will too depending on availabilities )

Remember it's all for the love of reading, and the desire for sharing. Do not tolerate personal "attack"!!! Genre 'You are a twit' etc. the host must right away step in and remind that is not allowed even in jest.

Follow your instinct! Do not be afraid to give the momento or change direction midway if you see that something is not working.

Have each person write a 50 words or less estimation of the reunion they just attended to be received in the next 48 hours, should include "constructive suggestion"

Contact local writers groups, you will find there is always someone willing to attend and talk about their writing and experience as writers.(encourage your local artists)

Have fun! Very important!!!
